What you'll be doing

The ACUTE Psychiatry Physician provides general psychiatric care to patients at the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and Severe Malnutrition, which is a medical stabilization unit for people with medical complications from severe eating disorders or other causes of reversible severe malnutrition. The unit provides medical management, nutritional rehabilitation, physical rehabilitation, and psychiatric and psychological support to each patient during their recovery journey. Additionally, ACUTE is a S27-65 facility as designated by the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration (BHA).

The ACUTE Psychiatrist is responsible for consulting, as part of a multidisciplinary team, on patients requiring medical stabilization for severe malnutrition from their eating disorder. They also must assist with assessment, administrative paperwork, and court for patients requiring involuntary care within Colorado regulations.

Essential Duties

  • Provide and document direct psychiatric care to medically and psychiatrically complex patients, discuss patient care with hospitalist, psychologists, dieticians, social workers, rehab professionals, nurses and collaborate to solve problems as they arise and evaluate patient capacity for medical decision making in setting of severe mental illness. Understand and apply Colorado Statutes and Behavioral health administration rules governing 27-65 facilities to provide involuntary psychiatric care that is compliant with these laws/regulations.
  • Prepare and participate in court hearings as required.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in or provision of additional trainings, educational programs, reviewing current literature, and attending in-service meetings and workshops. Including providing teaching and supervision to multi-disciplinary trainees, medical students, residents, and fellows.Provide and document direct psychiatric care to medically and psychiatrically complex patients, discuss patient care with hospitalist, psychologists, dietitians, social workers, rehab professionals, nurses and collaborate to solve problems as they arise.
  • Serve on Denver Health and ERCPL committees and work to help improve quality, efficiency, patient care and infection control while fostering teamwork and improving communication between staff and physicians.
    • Completes required documentation thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records.
    • Functions as the main liaison for court based involvement as necessary. Provides timely communication and documentation to support all necessary court requirements.
    • Collaborate on care delivery by 1) including staff, other physicians, and management in both service and patient care improvements; 2) treating all teammates with respect; 3) demonstrating the highest levels of ethical and professional conduct; and 4) behaving in a manner consistent with company mission and values 5) establishing and maintaining contact with referring providers both within that outside of the system 6) establishing and maintaining contact with family members and patient’s support persons when appropriate.
    • Advocate for patients including providing consistent and timely documentation regarding the patients need for level of care and participating in insurance peer reviews to optimize optimal length of stay for treatment.
    • Listen and communicate by 1) providing clinical information in a clear and timely manner; 2) requesting information and resources needed to provide care consistent with company goals; and 3) providing and accepting feedback in a respectful manner from all staff.
    • Take ownership by 1) providing leadership to improve outcomes, quality, and program quality; 2) working to ensure personal, program and organization compliance with all legal and educational requirements; and 3) steadily improving the efficiency and economic aspects of one’s practice.
    • Achieve quality metrics by 1) focusing on clinically relevant outcome measures; 2) adapting company innovations to continuously improve patient care, program, and organizational efficiency.
    • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
    • Promote positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients, families, and visitors. Treat these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy, and respect; consistently display courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications.
    • Promote positive relationship between Denver Health and Eating Recovery Center.
    • Comply with all applicable ERC and Denver Health policies.
    • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, receiving current literature, and attending in-service meetings, staff meetings and workshops. Attends, participates in, and contributes to in-services, education, and staff training sessions to maintain/increase skills and teach others.
    • Ensure all duties, responsibilities and competencies are conducted in a manner that is effective and appropriate to patients to whom care, service and treatment is being provided.
    • Receive individual and group supervision from physician and non-physician leaders.
    • Evaluate own performance and recognize opportunities for growth.
    • Provide community education and engage in marketing efforts when requested.
    • Serve as teacher for trainees seeking clinical experience. Serve as clinical supervisor and mentor to staff.
    • Participate in marketing and external educational programs to support the mission of ACUTE and ERCPL.

Must Haves

  • REQUIRED- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • REQUIRED- Graduation from an Accredited Medical School and completed Accredited Residency Program and fellowships for specialists or equivalent. Equivalent training for those Physicians who are not US residency trained.
  • REQUIRED- Physician Board Certified in a General Psychiatry. If physician is not board certified at the time of initial hire, it is expected that they will be pursuing board certification with a focused and timely approach.
  • REQUIRED- Licensed to practice medicine in the state(s) seeing patients.
  • REQUIRED- Continue or obtain BLS/CPR and maintain other Licensures, Certifications, and Registrations.
  • REQUIRED- Completes continuing education requirements as mandated by credentialing agencies.
  • REQUIRED- All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
  • REQUIRED- Ability to plan, direct, delegate and supervise a diverse workforce of professional and support personnel.
  • REQUIRED- Have knowledge of regulatory body requirements (Joint Commission, etc).
